Osborne's Resin Transfer Molding (RTM)
Process
1.
Fiberglass preparation
Depending upon the geometry of the part, fiberglass can either be cut or
formed into a jacket to ensure your product has the correct
strength and flex properties.
2. Spray gelcoat (if required)
If your project requires a gelcoat, either one or both halves of the
mold will be sprayed with gelcoat and allowed to dry.
3. Load fiberglass preform in mold
The fiberglass reinforcement is laid into the mold.
4.
Close mold, pump with resin, open mold and perform an initial
inspection.
5. Trim and finish part
Parts are trimmed, holes are drilled using Osborne made drill jigs or
on the 5-axis CNC machine. Some secondary operations Osborne does include:
- Sand for painting
- Bonding
- Attach metal accessories
- Light assembly

6. Final inspection/packaging
